Police have released the name of the man whose body was found in Lake Wānaka on New Year's Eve.

He was Codey Jervis, 32, a New Zealand national residing in London.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to the lake, near Waterfall Creek, at 7.42am on Sunday, where the body was found.

Police said today they wanted to speak to anyone who spoke to or saw Codey between 9:30pm on Saturday and 7:30am on Sunday.

He is described as an athletic Caucasian male, wearing a light blue top underneath a dark-coloured jacket, dark-coloured pants and white sneakers.

Sightings were likely to have been in the vicinity of Wānaka Mount Aspiring Rd near Ruby Island Rd, or the nearby lake track between Waterfall Creek and Edgewater Hotel in Wānaka.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have found or moved any clothing or personal items on the beachfront or surrounding area at Waterfall Creek between December 30 and January 1.
